Out of band management or lights out management simply permits an administrator to access a computer’s management controller when it is in an unresponsive mode such as hibernation, sleep or even turned off. In contrast to in band management, the management controller communicates with the management agent that runs with the full operating system on the computer it is managing. These two functions work together since in band management may not be available when the operation system is not available. In this case, out of band management can perform remote management on a computer.
